Anyway, I have been doing some looking and a little research, I want to make it a 4x4. Has anyone else done this? It appears the frames are the same, as well as the control arms and front suspension. As near as I can tell I just need to swap the transmission/transfer case, add the front diff/axles etc. and a 4wd switch. The harness is there and theres an option in the GEM to tell it if its 4wd or not. Any suggestions?

Also I have some mechanical ability and a lift in my gargae at the house!!!

Hi Shane, I'm also looking to convert a 2005 4.6 2wd to a 4wd. Could you help me with any pointers, parts needed and steps that would make it more efficient, Quaker and easier?

Here's the best pointer I, or anyone else on this forum can give you: sell your 2wd truck and buy a 4wd truck (just as the OP ended up doing), if that's what you really want. It's nothing worth it otherwise.

do yourself a favor and don’t bother. Keep that truck or sell and buy one that’s already 4wd.

I've got better luck with converting my 2 door to a 4 door.
