Heater Blowing Cold Air

Ok, despite the picture in my signature, I now drive a 2006 King Ranch with the digital temp control on the dash. For the first time this morning, my heat did not blow warm from the defroster. I played around with the controls for almost my entire 30 minute drive to work, until finally I dialed the temp down to 60 degrees, then back up to 85, at which point it started blowing warm air. Coolant level is good, temp gauge on dash stayed dead center the entire time. Only change I have made recently, and this is a stretch, but about two weeks ago, I installed a Brand Motion Ipod adapter in the dash, and rolled up some extra cord under the dash, in the center, under the radio/satellite box. Is it possible the cord is blocking the motion of some type of damper there? This one has me stumped. Maybe it was a fluke, since it did blow warm again. Thanks as always for the help!!

Could be you didn't connect something back up securely or the blend door decided to take a puke....

Well, I doubt the disconnected wires theory, since it has worked for the period since I made the install, plus I never disconnected the heat/air controls. The damper door is a possibility, just wondered what would make it be intermittent...

My .02 is on the blend door actuator motor....acting the same way mine did. Replaced it and has been fine ever since.

Agreed!
Your problem is probably the part shown in the vid posted by "88racing". I think its called the "blender door actuator motor"

I had this same problem on my wife's Windstar a couple yrs ago. I replaced that motor and all is good.

My '04 F150 has been experiencing the same intermittent issues you mention. Most of the time if I run the temp all the way up and then back down it starts working again.
I know its only a matter of time until I replace this little motor. "Or whatever they call it."

The Ford place by me keeps plenty of them in stock. He told me that the same part fits many Ford vehicles and is a common problem after a few yrs.

Good Luck
