Fail safe engine mode/blinkink engine light/lost power

Before I get murdered by the dealership, I hope you guys can help me out.

My truck ( 2005 F150 Lariat) was driving fine up until about 9 months ago. I was driving for about 2 hours and as I went up a small hill, it shut off and went into "fail safe engine mode" and I pulled to the shoulder of the road and started it back up. It did this about 10 more times over the last 8 months. I had a new TPS put on it and replaced one coil that the computer at O'Reilys said was messed up. Over the las month, it has gotten worse. I cleaned out my Throttle Body and the MAF sensor and it drove alot better the first day with no problems. However, now the blinking motor light comes on as I go up any grade of a hill and doesn't wanna do much around 45-50mph. It feels like it has very little power, but after it gets past 50 it drives much better. I have been having to turn off overdrive just so I can maintain speed on the interstate while going up an incline. I really don't wanna spend thousands of $$$ at the dealership if it is something that I can fix myself. Kinda broke at the moment. Thanks

"Blinking engine light" as in the CEL/SES light? That's a misfire. Plugs and/or coils. You can't generally determine the cylinder or cylinders unless the CEL comes on steady, a flashing light probably won't set a hard code to read out. You can try an OBD2 reader and see if there are any codes.

Failsafe is usually an electronic throttle body issue. That will turn the "wrench" light on and drop it to idle.

Thanks for the reply. I will have some new coils put in next week and will let you know how it turns out.
