Does the starter need to be aligned? Shimmed?

So I just had my starter out, thinking it was bad, but I think it was just dirty connections. Anyway, when putting it back in, the truck starts, but when turning the key, the whole truck shakes, and sounds like rocks smashing! The starter seems to sit flush and properly installed, but I'm wondering if I missed something. Help!
Thanks,
Aaron

Well, for anyone else reading this...I think it ended up being bad bearings in the starter. It sounded rough. I ended up throwing a new starter in it and everything is as good as new!

You were thinking about "Good old GM"! I don't remember Ford ever building a vehicle so poorly that you had to shim the starter like you were living in Cuba and used one fron another make of car altogether like GM did. Gotta love GM. No wonder someone the caliber of Obummer had to come along and bail 'em out, WITH OUR MONEY!
