Cluster / speedo issues and steering wheel question

I have spent the better part of my morning searching all the issues/solutions for cluster speedo problems on this forum. Here is my problem. When I start my 2005 XLT 4x2 for the first time in the morning or after it has sat for a while, the gauges will bounce and chatter pedded to the bottom. After about 5 to 10 seconds they reset and function properly. About every 5 times or so the trip milage will reset to zero. I read that the battery could be going bad, so I had that checked and was told the battery was fine as too was the alternator. I will say the truck will drag trying to start like that battery is weak from time to time. I believe I will have it checked again by another garage to rule out the battery.

Believing I needed to replace the cluster, I have searched for replacements and how hard it would be to replace it. I like the King Ranch/Lariat/FX4/FX2 clusters but read the only upgrade I can make is to FX4/FX2 since I do NOT have a controlled climate. Can I upgrade to the FX4/FX2 cluster and do I need to have my truck programmed to recognize the new cluster and have actual correct milage? Will all the functionality work? I have a tach, compass and outside temp already.

Also, is it possible to replace the factory steering wheel with a used factory steering wheel that has media controls? My current steering wheel does not have hand controls. I would like to control my stereo from the wheel. Does this require a professional to install if compatible?

Thanks for any insight!
