HELP!!! Swapping a 2004 Saleen sc281 into a 2005 F150 4.6l
Here is the story. Friend of mine totaled out his 2004 SC281 has 11k miles on it. I want to pull the motor and put it in my f150. The sc281 was a 5sp car my truck is an auto. I want to keep the auto if possible. What issues do you think im am going to have doing this swap? I know i will prob need a tune. but the physical and electrical should be no different Right
Either swap the entire motor or just the supercharger package. Custom tune for sure. Custom fabrication on the setup for sure. I would love to tell you that it should work with minimal issues but you would probably be better off with a supercharger kit designed for your truck.
Don't think a used 4R70E would last long with a 4 valve supercharged 281. If you decided on using the manual, you would still need to have a custom driveshaft made I would think. The Saleen computer could work, but a lot of things would have to be adapted to it. Guess the real question is "how much money do you want to spend?"
The Saleen just had a regular 2V Mustang GT engine with their supercharger on it, nothing really that special. Unless you're getting this dirt cheap I'd go with a supercharger kit designed for your truck. Way less hassle and less money most likely.
Exactly.......
The problem with buying a supercharger kit for the F150 is that they don't make them for '04-'08s with the 4.6L 2V. I'm not saying that the Saleen 281 would work perfectly, but there isn't really another option for supercharging.
Honestly though, it's still probably more trouble than it's worth. I gave up on getting more power out of my rig awhile ago. Now I'm just glad the 4.6s are time-tested motors since my truck will most likely see 300k before I get anything else, it always does what I ask of it though. Unless you have money laying around doing nothing it's not worth the hassle.

Some have done asimilar swap...less torque, more high end. They didn't like it and switched back to stock.

If you have a 4.6 in your truck already, then the mustang engine should be a direct swap. Just upgrade your fuel pump and get a tune. That is a positive displacement supercharger, so it will go full boost instantly at WOT so your low end torque should actually increase and cruising around shouldn't have any noticeable decreases in torque!

Any way my point is why is this truck such a bastard that you cant get go fast goodies for it. I have the normal stuff X-calIII Dynomax Exhaust 4:10 gears K&N but even when i back up to my 23' boat the truck gets scared.
The 4.6 wasn't really meant to be a powerhouse in these trucks. It does the job, but performance wise the 5.4 is more filling of the role. It's like a V6 mustang, if you wanted to supe it up to the end of the earth, you should've bought a bigger engine. I'm jealous you've got 4.10s. I want to swap my gears out, but the cash just isn't there these days
