Noise coming from new rotors and brake pads
Hey guys, I just got new front rotors and brake pads but when I started driving around, I noticed a scratching noise coming from them. I've put about 500 miles on them in the last week when I drove back to college and the noise is substantially quieter but still definitely there. Is this common with new brake pads or rotors? It's not just when I'm braking but as soon as I start moving the noise is very noticeable. Thanks for your help!
Did you do the work yourself or take it to a shop? Unless you specifically request a decent pad (Wagner, etc.) many shops will just throw in "store brand" pads from Auto Zone or some place like that. You know the old saying -- "You get what you pay for!" Over time you also may find that these "off brand" pads have a different density than factory spec and will tend to tear up your rotors in a big hurry.

I could take it down to the local ford dealership and see what they say. But the work was done by a goodyear service center so who knows.
I discovered your problem! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I would take the wheels off and look for myself on what pads and rotors they installed in front of them. Thats why i never leave my truck at places like that and im always walking around the shop and looking inside the bay when my truck got work done. I dont trust them to not put the right stuff in there when im gone.
It may just be a misaligned pad or piece of debris stuck in between the pad and rotor. Is it both rotors or just one? It would be odd to have the problem on both rotors unless they installed some suspect parts.
The other thing that has happened to virtually everyone who has ever worked on disc brakes is a pad put in backwards. Yea, I hate to admit it, but I've done it. Fortunately, I caught it before it was too late. Hopefully it's just a dust shield though.
Thanks for the help guys, we've gotten about an inch of rain in the past few hours so I took my truck out and couldn't get it to make any kind of noise from the brakes, maybe something was just stuck in the brake pad and the rain washed it out, who knows...I'll have to wait until it dries up to be sure but maybe I got lucky.
My step dad continues to take his F150 to the Goodyear shop even after he's been ripped off time and time again. They used to run a tight ship but constant management changes has killed their workmanship.
