I can sell my truck tomorrow and could buy a 2010 F150 XL long bed, 2wd with a 4.6 V8.

Mine has 46k miles and is in immaculate condition. The 2010 has 42k miles, has a clean title and looks to be in awesome shape. Though, you really can never know how it's been treated. I know mine has been babied.

Do you think I should go for this? I'd get the new truck and have about $1000 left over.

personally, I wouldn't. but if you like the newer truck more, its your choice. It would be an upgrade engine-wise.

 

no. most of the xl trucks are used as work trucks...and are abused most of the time. 42K on a 2010 seems like some serious use. I guess drive it. i dont think id do it, but i would trade for it if it was 4x4 and had some options....not much reason to trade an xl for an xl unless you just want to get the small v8. We have a lot of those trucks at my work that have higher miles and look nice all over, but ive seen what they were used for! So you do whatever makes you happy.

 

I don't consider it much of a trade unless you just want a v8. I'm not big on the XL's as personal vehicles though, as I like my well-optioned truck for a DD. If I wanted a truck optioned like an XL, I'd pay less money and get a 78-79 F-250 4x4 with a 460!

I wouldn't do the trade, especially since it only has 4k less miles than your truck. If it had lower miles, like say 20k miles, then yeah it would probably be a good trade. But, as Big Smokey said, a 2010 xl with 42k miles sounds like it was used as a work truck, and probably not taken care of as well as it should have. Unless you want to step up to the v8 and have a longer bed, I don't think it is really worth it.

And yes, not looking for some huge upgrade. The newest body style and a V8 would be all I'm looking for.

I've gotten quite used to having an XL.

 

You know your truck and how it has been taken care of, while you know little about how the newer truck has been maintained. Add to that the fact that the '04 - '08 bodystyle is more attractive and I'd be hard-pressed to recommend the switch.....

 

Id much rather have a v8 and a longbed if I had to get a regular cab.

 

I passed on that 2010. If I get a used one, it'll have no more than 15k miles. I would like to get into the new body style and a V8, I'll just have to find the right one. Short bed would be my preference. Easier to park and I don't need an 8" bed.

Thanks for all the responses. I was excited about the idea of a new truck, but a two year old truck with 42k miles has seem some heavy usage. I've had my truck since it had 3 miles on it and I know it's never been abused.

 

As the others have said, I do not see the advantage other than going to an 8.
The trade you are looking certianly sounds like a "work truck".
