CV angles and Bilstein 4-6" struts.

I'm still on the fence on ordering the Bilstein 4-6" struts.

My concern is that they will increase my cv angles having them set at the 6" setting.

You would think that since I would be replacing a 6" coil spacer for a 6" strut I would see no difference?

But I saw a pic of 6_isnt_enough's install and originally he had a 2" spacer and his angles were pretty steep, then he removed the spacers and the angles weren't so bad however they look to still be steeper than my angles now. (I believe he has a 6" RCX lift like me) https://www.f150online.com/forums/showthread.php?t=428239

I really was liking this idea but again, I'm on the fence as I don't want higher angles than I do now. I would say my angles are equall to that of a 1" spacer as the RCX kit drops the front differential @5" not a full 6".

I'm going to see if I can find any more pics of cv angles with these Bilsteins. I'll link anything that I can find.

I came across another f150 with these struts and the cv angles seemed good. I just can't seem to find the pic?

I'll keep on google searching.

Not a cv pic but wanted to share for those curious about these strut's.
If anyone wants to, feel free to post a pic of these.
I'm on my phone and am not able to post pics. Just links for now.

Just had these shocks put on(on 6" setting) and cv angle is better than skyjacker strut with 1.5" spacer

Nice! Thanks for chiming in rrozell.

I believe you have a full 6" drop down bracket correct?

I have the RCX 6" kit and it has a 5" drop bracket, which should be the equivelant to a 1/2 spacer up front. So in theory since your angles are better than that with a 1.5" spacer, my angles should be better as well?
At least I hope so! Lol

Either way I appreciate you taking the time to post.

You do realize that the drop down spacer(5"-6" or whatever size they used) has to come out this these shocks/struts? Sure you do but just in case.

Yup! The Bilsteins replace the gigantic 6" coil spacer.

Rough Country sells these as a 6" kit, because even though the drop down brackets are 5" they do utilize a 6" spacer.

So I will need to use the Bilsteins at the 6" mark to get the full 6 inches of lift. So regardless if I use the spacer or these struts I will have some cv angle because of the 5" drop brackets. Just hoping the Bilsteins give me less angles and a better ride, which I'm sure they will because they won't be compressing the coils like a spacer.

Also, does having the struts set at the max 2" of lift decrease it's performance in any way?
I'm sure this would apply to those using the leveling 0-2" struts as well.

The "setting" you refer to is just the lower spring perch. You just move a clip into a groove and it holds the perch. There are multiple grooves allowing for different heights. The performance doesn't change as the strut expands when on the longest setting. You'll be fine with them..

I just got home from picking up a tow strap from a local off-road custom shop and out of curiosity I asked them about these strut's and they looked at me if I was talking another language!

They did not believe me when I told them 4-6" struts not the 0-2.5" leveling struts. It almost turned into a pissing match with the guy saying, "trust me, if Bilstein made this strut I would know"! I then just whipped out my iPhone searched this forum for all things Bilstein 4-6" struts and then proceeded to show him actual pictures of these struts installed.

The dude then says to me, those are special made struts for yotatech or something like that? And that they don't make them or sell them anywhere else?
Completely lost me after this?

Didn't want to argue with him over it but I know he's wrong!
RCD uses them in there lift kits.

I need to just have pictures of these strut's on my phone at all times for when someone calls BS on them. Lol

Another thing too is that when I told him the struts will be replacing my spacer he said, not possible! You will be nose down as these struts will only give you 2.5" of lift. And this was after I showed him pics! Lol
Keep toking dude!

*i types this from my phone so please excuse any errors*

The difference is the exact same as my RS9000XL shocks that I bought with my Rnacho 4" lift. The lower bar below the actual shock part is longer allowing them to lift it more than stock... Get what i'm saying? Then for the fine tuning you get to change the spring perch. If you wanted to bump up to 7 or 8 inches you could then add a 1 or 2 inch AS spacer on top of your Biltein strut setup.

Heres a link. My best guess as to why Top Gun is the only place you can find them is because they deal with RCD stuff. Back when I bought my 5100 before I was lifted they were only 1 or 2" of lift. whereas some people had 1.5". I couldn't figure it out and eventually narrowed it down to that RCD Branded bilstein struts were different, hence the reason you can only find them at Top Gun or through RCD. Get what i'm saying? If you want them buy them through Top Gun, install them, and be happy you proved all the ignorant people wrong!

Thanks Lifted5.4Lariat!

rrozell, when I had talked to 4wheelparts the sales guy was trying to throw a coil over set up at me too!

Gee, let me think? $1,500 coil overs or go the cheaper Bilstein Route of $288?

Granted I know this ain't no coil over set up but it sure beats the spacer!
