brush guard questions

what do you guys thing about this ad?

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ335906387

im really concerned about the way he has it welded all ugly for the mounting brackets. are they not suppose to be using a thin plate of steel or do they all use a square 2" pipe?

also, it looks like it sits very far out from the truck. is that remedied by drilling new holes in the mounting brackets and pushing it closer a few more inches?

and my most important question, do these guards come chrome, or are they chrome plated? not that i want it chrome, i ask because i either want it powder coated black, or linexed. and im curious to know how much work it will be to make it suitable for either, if possible.

finally, does anyone know the make/model?

im going to send him a message now and inquire about it, thanks for looking guys.

If I were you I'd just try to find another one. Many people are good with modifying parts from other vehicles to fit their own but there's no telling how good this guy is with a little custom fab work. I feel that you could find a used one made for an F150 that would fit better, not be modified, and be close to the same price.

Most brush guards (with the exception of the Manik IIRC) sit pretty far away from the front of the truck. They need to in order for the grill to clear when the hood is opened.

I had the Manik on my 05 for a while, and frankly there are to many moving parts. The thing rattled a lot no matter what you did.

The best looking one for this model year is the Ranch Hand, if you're willing to drop the cash, it sounds like a great, reliable product.

From what Ive seen they all use thinner plate steel to attach to the frame.

That one looks awful on the truck in the pic because its not made for an F150 and doesnt sit right. It should be covering the headlights, not under them.

thanks guys, though i do have a few more questions

do you think a guard from a 97-03 will fit nicely and look good on a 04-08?

i can fab up mounting brackets but is the distance between the frame rails the same on a 97 and 04?

No it won't look right. The 97-03 had a much more curvy front end. It probably wouldn't even fit around the headlights of an 04-08.

The only brush guard you can run that won't look rediculous is one that's designed for the 04-08 trucks. You're going to have a lot of clearance/fitment problems when you try to open the hood

To bad you don't live near me. I have one in my storage unit for 04/05. I prefered the bull bar.
