Engine Temperature Gauge Acting Crazy

Hi,
I have a 2004 F150, Lariat. Approx 130,000 miles. The coolant temp gauge in the dash is acting up. Sometimes it doesn't register anything at all, sometimes swings gradually/fast between hot and cold.

Operating temps were analyzed via computer and all coolant temps were found to be in normal ranges.

Has anyone had this problem?
Are these temperature gauges easy to replace?

Thanks for any help.
Wally

i would bet the sensor or the wire to it. not sure where that is on your engine. probably cheap if you replace it your self.
