Like I said, I don't mind the noise, but if this means 2k now or 6K for a new motor later, I may be looking for a new truck. I bleed ford blue, so it will be hard not to buy anything else. Maybe the new ecoboost or 5L won't have these issues? Again, thanks for all the comments.

Sounds normal to me but it's hard to tell from a laptop. I know my cam phasers make noise but they all do.

That is how my truck sounded from day one with 22K miles. I now have 90K and nothing is worse nor better. I do however have a loud rattle around 800-1100 rpms. I've researched this problem and I think it is the vtc's. The fram kills the vtc's by not allowing enough oil to pass through them.
This does not sound like phasers to me at all. The phasers sound like a diesel not a soft tick like this video.

Start with the vtc's. MUCH cheaper than the phasers and you can do the job yourself. You can search on youtube for the 5.4 VTC and see a few videos of it.

I will be replacing mine when I get back. If you change your vtc's please post your results. Good luck man!

thanks, I'll look into changing VTC's. That makes me feel a little better, I would have to buy a new F150 if it got too bad. I just can't cross that line. Thanks for the tip.
