Replacing Worn Key

I purchased my truck used and only got one key. The key works the door lock if it's "jiggled", and the key looks worn. The key does not operate the tailgate lock at all. Is there a way to get another original key based on the VIN?

Would they just copy the original with a cutting machine or would they use the VIN/lock to cut a new unworn key?

The dealership will sell you a new coded key (around $50) and they should give you the instructions on how to program it for your truck.

You will need 2 keys to program a new key yourself, the dealer will want about $300 for a new key cut and programmed.

But there is now a cheaper option, I suggest going to ford to get the key and have it cut but take it to homedepot, they can now program keys for $75

They probably went down in price the day homedepot and walmart got the devices that could program the keys
