2006 Super Crew 197,000 miles is worth $7,000 ?

I'm looking at a 2006 Supercrew 4x2 XLT with very high miles (197K). Is it worth $7,300 if it's in good condition? Are there any things specifically to look for on a high mileage vehicle?
Edmunds and KBB have private party value @ $10K.

I just sold my 2005 with 134,800 miles for $10,000. It had been maintained well and is in excellent condition.

I'd say no, 2wd generally do not hold their value.

They do around here as there is seldom a need for 4x4.

I think you need to reinvestigate that claim. They hold their value the same as the 4WD's do. FOrr a 4x4, you pay 3K more on the front end + interest (on that 3K), thus the value between the 4WD's and 2WD's should be around 4K different between the similarly equipped trucks. Basically, my truck books at 23K (2WD), the same truck in 4WD books at just over 25K, so you're losing 1-1.5K in the cost of the 4x4 option alone. Even if the 4WD could fetch another $1K in sales price, you'd still basically be breaking even in the long run.

On a side note, I can't imagine someone in Dallas, TX thinking that 4WD trucks would hold their value more being as though Dallas probably sees less than 4" of snow on average. The NEED for a 4WD in TX is rare unless you just happen to want to go off-roading. Heck, in even here in Northern Okla. I've never absolutely NEEDED 4X4, it's just a nice-to-have.

Just depends on your needs. I can see it from many points of view, being that I have lived all over. In the Dallas area, the only thing you would need a 4x4 for is driving over those damn concrete dividers in the road. LOL But in Georgia there are plenty of public dirt roads that you would probably find out in rural TX too.

Not much need for 4WD in OKC, it would be mostly used for playing/hunting/off roading. Some in Oklahoma buy 4WD for oil field use, but those are typically the XL trucks.
I'm not an offroader and can't justify the extra cost (upfront and gas mileage) for 4WD that I'd rarely use.

Agreed, but the point was not whether or not there is a need for 4x4 trucks. The point was that 2WD or 4WD doesn't make the truck depreciate in value faster. 2WD vehicles will be worth less than 4WD vehicles, in general, but difference in value won't usually be more than the original difference of the option. There are exceptions to the rule when dealing with rare options, but with most trucks/suv's it's not an issue.

why not save your dough and get a less milage one? How much longer do you think that truck will go? I paid 11,000 for mine, 2x4 xlt with 51,000 on it.

Which engine does it have? The 4.6L 2V will go forever. The 5.4L 3V needs to be watched and at almost 200k miles I'd do some serious investigation into the maintenance history of the truck.

EDIT: nvm i see its a 4.6L. I'd still do some research on the maintenance and have a vehicle inspection done, but that particular drivetrain tends to last.

Went and looked at the truck, well taken care of for it's miles. Drives/brakes/steers well, no visible leaks under or on top of the engine. Engine dusty but doesn't look unusual for age/mileage, doesn't appear to have seen much off road driving. All windows/power locks/AC works. Does have a dent/scrape on the passengers side bed and although it's clean inside could use a good detail. Non smoker one owner, fleet maintained used as a sales rep truck. Spray in bedliner doesn't have any wear, is that normal for Rhino Liners? Spark plugs have never been done, got quotes from 2 different places (one shop and one dealer) for $300 installed. Runs fine now but I've read about spark plug issues on here. "Extras" are keypad entry over drivers door, in dash 6 disc MP3 player, chrome step bars, foglights. 17" Tires have about 70% or so tread left and wear is even.

KBB shows $8,900 private party, Edmunds $10,300 pp, Nada shows $7k trade-in. How many of the 2004 -2008's are going much over 200K w/o major problems?

No need to worry about spark plug problems with the 4.6L engine.
