please help the new guy!

Hey guys n gals I love the site I always search these forums for answers to my truck problems and usually find my answer! Until now. So I joined up so I can ask! I have an 07 fx4 with the factory amp/sub under the rear seat. I'm not sure if it's the amp or sub, but it cuts out allllll the fricken time, my other speakers still work, but no bass, and as a music lover, it's driving me insane!! I have to turn off the h/u, turn back on, then it works again, for an unknown amount of time. It does this about 10-20 times (so annoying) then seems to work ok after it "warms up" kind thing. It's totally random, happens when loud, quiet, idling, driving, I'm stumped. The stereo is comPletely stock except
For a kenwood h/u I had put in. I had the same problem when the factory 6 disc h/u was in as well. Can someone please help!! I don't want to buy a new amp/sub if I don't have to but this problem is too annoying to deal with. Thanks!!

Since you've already changed out the head unit and your problem is still there, I would guess that you have a bad amp/sub combo. If you have a spare speaker lying around, try plugging it in to the factory amp and see if you still have the problem. If it goes away, then you need a new sub, if it doesn't then the amp is bad.

Get a 10 mm socket and take out the three bolts and roll the sub box over to access the sub and the amp. If you need to replace the actual sub, it's an 8" and the box has 3.5" mounting depth. A kicker CVT 8" is a perfect fit in the factory box and is more than enough sub for the factory amp.

Here is what mine looked like after I modified it

I put in a kicker CVR 8" with a 3/4" spacer ring to gain the needed 4.25" depth and I mounted a terminal cup for an external amp and ditched the factory amp. I have since sold off the setup and went with a 10" CVR in a custom box pushed by a 500W kenwood mono amp.

Hey that's a nice setup! I've been thinking of doing something like this but I'm actually pretty happy with the sound of the audiophile (when working). Thanks for the advice I'll try another speaker with my amp see what happens, cheers
