I purchased a new (to me) "Certified Pre-Owned" 2006 F150. Keep in mind that I've only OWNED this truck for about 5 months.

Also, several times I've mentioned that the passenger doors don't open easily, but apparently that's not covered by ANY of the assorted warranties and the service manager told me "They all do that after a while".

I love the truck, but if it were a dog I would have buried it in my backyard already.
The whole "Certified Pre-Owned" concept now makes me think of Tommy Boy's remarks on a guarantee

 

Holy cow man, that sucks a lot. Maybe you can sell it and get a better F150 that has been well-maintained and taken care of? Reason why I said that is you don't have to worry about those problems coming back to you again and making you pay out of your pocket. Just my thought...

 

Getting another truck would be a crap shoot as far as getting a well maintained vehicle, you just don't know what the previous owner did for maintenance.

I would keep the truck you have because it now has a new engine that you can maintain properly. The engine is going to be one of the most expensive items to replace in the truck and you already have a new one.

Just make sure to use a motorcraft oil filter ONLY, not only for warranty purposes but also because it won't degrade and come appart internally like some aftermarket filters. The 5.4 3v engine does not tollerate this debree from cheap filters at all. Make sure you change your oil about every 3000 miles also with the Motorcraft synthetic blend 5w20. These newer engines seem to sludge up easy so more frequent oil changes are needed.

 

I see what both of you are saying. I had the same thought on the engine. Almost makes it "good as new"... if only the truck would spend more time with me instead of in dealers service bay.

I think the door problem can be addressed, I'd bet it's just a misaligned door, I'm thinking of taking it to a body shop guy I know to see what he can do. I'd also like to replace the window switches on the drivers door. The drivers window control doesn't click into place when rolling the window up and though it does roll down it does not perform the "auto" down feature it's supposed to. Dealer wanted ~$200 to do this. There's also a small area of cancer on the outside of the bed. Looks like there was a decent scratch in the paint and someone that knew NOTHING about paint tried to cover it up. The results are a very lumpy very ugly cover up job about the size of golf ball.

 

Something you always have to keep in mind when buying used vehicles - there is ALWAYS a reason why the previous owner got rid of it. This reason is NOT always just the desire for a new vehicle.
