Finally replaced plugs....
Finally replaced plugs....
Well , let me start out by saying " : Thank God it's done
" . Did alot of preparation before-hand , reading tons of threads and having just about every tool mentioned by others, as a just in case tool.
Replacement plugs were the sp 515 motorcrafts and I got them for $82 out the door ( 5% off and a $10 off mailer). Ran 2 bottles of Techon though her too.
Started on the drivers side by taking the COP's off and shot 2 quirts off B-12 carb cleaner from walmart and proceeded to crack them a 1\8-1\4 turn using a 24 inch (1\2 drive) breaker bar. Came back 45 mins later and using a longer torque wrench set to 20 ft lbs, let me know when I could go a little further or back off and go the other way a hair. First 3 no problems, but the driver rear was a PIA. This one cracked immediately, but I had a Lisle tool ready. FYI - I bought this used from a forum member and it did'nt work for me , so I would not recommend buying a used one. They do wear out. Went to NAPA and got a new one and it worked perfectly, just remember to run the screw down and leave a 1\8 inch from the bottom and it'll grab it.
Put the new ones in and bought some hi-temp nickle anti from ford ( no-one else had it).
Next side same procedure but the first one in front cracked and that was easy to get to and pull out.
All in all , not to bad , but a few things I noted and must haves:
Long breaker bar a must
torque wrench ( this can be used as a breaker too, but i had both )
various extensions and adapters ( long and short) for 1\2 and 3\8 drive
magnetic extension pen
buy a new lisle tool, not a used one.
hi temp nickle anti seize
removing the computer and bracket is a must too.
and take your time. when your loosening and tightening, if you get resistence, go the other way a hair, then back. some people said they worked the plugs out in about 1 min each (no way) . it took me about 5 mins each plug. Good Luck
