code throwing lariat
4 25 11 (p2004) 7 31 11 (PO171 PO174) 8 17 11 (p2004) 9 6 11 ( P2004 PO174 PO171pd PO174pd P2004pd) had a remanned long block installed a while back and it seems like it has been a code fest ever since. the coil malfunction was the only code that had any noticable performance result though and after coil replacement it has run fine im just tired of seeing that light come up on this thing. i really wanted to give ford a chance again but this is getting old.. 2004 f150 lariat supercrew 5.4 .. is it a lemon and is it time to cut my losses and trade or what? mechanic was closed today will try and go by friday... any ideas on how severe these codes are will help..
A p2004 is intake runner control stuck open bank 1 my truck is currently haveing the same problem I have been told by ford that it can be as
simple as a loose hose to the vaccume contol that runs it
or the acual flapper control can be stuck out which the motor has to be pulled out to fix

You have a vac leak somewhere (my guess). P0171/174 is lean bank 1 & 2. Could be as easy as the air cleaner tube is loose or cracked, or a torn/disconnected vac hose, to who ever did your motor screwed up the intake gaskets.
Most common on the 5.4 is the PCV hose at the back of the intake.
Lemon? Don't think so. Some what less than excelent diagnosis by your mechanic-more likely.
If you are getting the same codes after clearing them, to me that would point to a problem that needs to be hunted down. Do a little research on the P0171/174 and start with the easiest fixes first. Simply clearing the codes will not "cure" the problem, they are pointing you to an area to look into. That is why they are called Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Look for the common causes to the codes your computer is reporting.
Good luck.

My best guess is that you have an issue with the CMCV that controls the intake runners. When changing these motors it can be pretty tricky to get everything right back there behind the intake. There are vacuum lines and harnesses that all pass behind the intake along with the control arms that go to the runner on each side of the intake. I would just have them pull the intake and put everything back together again. If they re-used your intake there is also a decent chance that the runners were gunked up and probably aren't moving easily. I had to pull the runners out of my intake and clean them and reinstall before putting mine back on during my rebuild. They don't need to pull the motor to do this.
got it back today. ticket says " remove intake to check vacuum lines, clean linkeage on back of intake, clean runners, replace vacuum valve for for fuel tank pressure for evap. , clear codes and test drive" vacuum valve$ 52.60 throttle cleaner$ 16.90 antifreeze$ 15.70 labor$ 110.00.... $202.45 out the door... light has been coming on every month or so. if it comes on again it may be time to find another mechanic or truck........
