anyone know why when I turn on hi - beam all lights go off. I checked the fuse it was ok based on reading here sounds like multi function switch can anyone suggest any other idea or where to get one of those switches.
I have a 2007 F150 STX extended cab. Its my baby.
thanks for your help , this forum and the people on it are awesome.

When you say you checked the fuse, how did you check it? I trust you took it out and did a continuity check on it or some other positive way of checking. NEVER simply LOOK at a fuse and say "looks fine to me". I'm not inferring that's what you did, just checking. Next thing is to check juice to EACH high beam contact AT the headlight plug. Stranger things have happened than BOTH bulbs going out at the same time (meaning BOTH high beam elements). There is a relay I'm quite sure, in the high beam circuit, should be in the PDB (power distribution box). Could be the MFS, but check the other things 1st., easier that way.
Sorry, just re-read your post and noticed it said ALL lights go off. ??? Still would check the other things 1st. You can take the cover off below the steering column, make sure you don't have a broken wire there, they're pretty small.

my Dad's old '85 F150 did that... it had the switch on the floor. You would step on it and all headlights just shut off
(pretty exciting when driving 55 MPH down a country road at night)

The fix was to put a new switch in.

I know your switch is on the steering shaft now... but I'm guessing it could still be the same issue. I'd talk to a Ford Dealer about replacing it.

and about fuses - doesn't the same fuse run both high and low beams? I haven't checked so I'm just guessing.

It could probably also be a bad relay. In the fuse panel there is a relay that controls High and Low beams (this is the relay you modify to keep your fog lights on with the high beams... search "Bambi Mod")
