SFPDM?? Same as FPDM?
SFPDM?? Same as FPDM?
Well I am getting ready to go on a trip to Little Rock, Arkansas. So I have decided to do a little up keep/maintenance on the truck before I leave. I have already check all the fluids, and the tire pressures. All good.
But Today I went ahead and dropped the spare to check the air in it. (glad I did). To my surprise, there was only 13LBS in it!? I actually had to get a different gauge to read it. My first one only went as low as 20lbs. My Quad gauge only goes to 15 in .5 lb increments.
ANYWAYS, I decided to also check the back of the FPDM while I had the spare dropped. I found a part that was labeled SFPDM, and I kinda figured that was it. I took the bolts off, and there wasn't hardly any rust there, just alot of oxidation. I grabbed some sand paper that i had, and took all the oxidation off of it. To help protect it, I got a can of black spray paint and put 3 coats on it. (I was looking for clear. But couldn't find any in the shop) I think that I may have helped dodge a major deal. I would hate to be stuck 9 hours form home.. On a weekend, with no dealerships open...
Here are some pics!!

Get some longer bolts and some washers. Position the washers so that the module is shimmed off from the metal crossmember (NO metal to metal contact). Also should use some undercoat or heavy duty sealer instead of just paint and you should be good to go
I'm going to pull the spare again on Friday before I leave, and check the air again. Hopefully it's holding the air. But while its down again, i will go ahead and throw a few washers in there.
I imagine 1/4" will be good enough. The head was only an 8mm socket...
