Tranny fluid question

I have an '07 Supercrew 4.6 and I'm needing a tranny fluid change soon per the maintenance specs. I'd like to switch to a synthetic as I have not been running a synthetic yet. How many quarts of fluid do I need to order for the swap?

Seriously? You looked up the maintenance specs but couldn't look up the fluid specs?

Well obviously I checked the specs and it says the capacity is something like 14 quarts which seems like a lot and from research I've done online it seems like people are only using 7 to 8 quarts for a tranny flush so that leads me to believe that the synthetic would mix with the conventional. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

it is 6 or 7 quarts if you just drop the pan. If you do a complete fluid swap, it's 14 or so quarts. Make sure whatever you use meets Ford's requirements.

Thats because when you drop the pan you get about half the fluid. The other half is still in the converter and valve body.

What everybody else is trying to tell you, is don't use that synthetic tranny fluid unless it meets the specs listed in your owners manual.

Full flush, drop pan, clean magnet, replace filter (if you want to, not needed per ford...heh) doing it yourself I used just about 15 quarts (little extra waste).

I used Amsoil ATF.

I got 15 quarts of Royal Purple MAX ATF and took it and my truck to my local "trusted" auto repair shop that was in possession of a tranny flush machine. I stood there watching them the entire time. Always keep an eye on the Royal Purple, watch them pour it quart by quart into the verified empty flush machine and connect the very same machine to my truck and perform the flush. When you pay $200 for ATF fluid, you want to make sure that it is actually going into your truck. I flushed mine at around 30k miles, never dropped the pan. I have 56k on my truck now with NO PROBLEMS what so ever with the transmission. Next time around I'll drop the pan and change the filter. Oh, and the Royal Purple lowered my ATF temps by about 10 degrees, as my PHP Gryphon displays...
