Problems and need some help please.
Here we go. Truck is a 2004 5.4 FX4. 82,000 k/m.
A little history. Since coming off extended warranty last fall here are some things I have changed. Blower motor, MAF sensor, cleaned TP sensor. The thermostat is stuck open right now and needs to be changed.
Right now I am getting codes p0340 (Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction) and p2004 (Intake Air System Malfunction).
Symptons of the truck are as follows:
When started after a few seconds or minutes sometimes I lose heater control, power windows and door locks, and all dash gauges. Now when i drive the power will restore to all for a second or two and than use everything again. Along with this if I am driving i am hearing a grinding noise when it loses power to the gauges, windows and heater. When I lose the power to all functions the truck still drives fine.
A question I have is can a Canshaft sensor cause this? I went to he dealer and they figure when it loses the gauges the amps drop off than there is not enough vacum so the 4x4 is trying to engage while driving (therefore the grinding). They recommended that I change the alternator. I picked one up but dont want to change it if this is not the problem. Could an intermittant alternator cause this?
Also I hooked a volt meter up to the battery, it read 15.8 volts while running and when I lost the gauges it still read the same. This is why I think the alternator is fine, however not sure.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

sounds like your over charging....I could be wrong...doesn't the alternator put out 12-14 volts?....my work truck was acting funny...06 f-350...was losing all my gauges....they would turn on and off...wound being alternator was over charging...voltage regulator was bad....new alternator...problem solved...
your symptoms of losing power sound slot like the problems I was having with losing power...maybe someone else will chime in about what voltage is within normal range the alternator should put out....when everything was happening with my work truck...mechanic changed out the alternator....that was 3 months ago...and it's been fine ever since...
The alternator should run about 13.8-14.6V. I like to see about 14.4 at about 15-1600 RPM. 15.8 is DEFINITELY overcharging.
