Permanantly turn off OD???

I have a 2004 5.4 XL 2wd and my overdrive went a few months ago. I typically only go around town, so driving with the OD off has gotten me by so far. I am short on cash right now, so I cant drop the $2500 that all the shops by me want to rebuild/replace the trans. Every once in awhile I forget to turn off the OD button or hit it accidentally while driving which sends my RPMs through the roof at 40mph. Is there anyway to bypass the OD button and just disable the OD permanently, at least until I come up with the money to have it fixed?

Why not just turn it off until you can get it fixed? As far as I know there's no way to disable it permanently. My truck with 3:73's is only at 1600 RPM's at 40mph out of OD.

A custom tune could be wrote to keep it off, but there will be cost involved just to be lazy and not hit the button.

If just your OD went out in your trans, it should be repairable without a rebuild. Mine went out a couple months ago and I had it looked at by an experienced transmission mechanic and he can fix it without pulling the trans. Mines going into the shop at the beginning of the month and should cost between $750-850.
