new 08' 4x4 5.4l XLT

i just traded in my 07' xl reg cab 4.2l 2wd for a 08' f150 XLT 5.4l 4x4. i noticed my front end obviously sits a lot lower due to engine weight. so now im stuck choosin the best lift. is a 3" levelin kit sufficent enough to fit 35's? or should i get a 6" lift. also wats the best performance exhaust for the 5.4l i been lookin at flowmaster force 2. ok last thing does anyone know the part no. for the magna flow high flo cats? thanks guys greatly appreciate feed back

Magnaflow #94106 would be the cats you need.

I don't have personal experience with lifts, but my friend and I talked it over and we think you should be good with the 3", but if you want the 6" and it is a good price, I say go for it.

Enjoy your new ride, and thanks for serving this country--we are proud of you guys.

ok i appreciate it i dont need a 6" and its expensive no matter where i look, so if i can fit the 35's im just get the 3" leveling kit its way cheaper n will still look good IMO. now how aggresive of a tire can i get or not get and does anyone have tires suggestions in the mud terrain style i was lookin at Fierce attitude m/t's anybody ever used them? or have a better suggestion? they are cheap n have a good tread pattern

ok cool thanks i was gettin worried that it wasnt gonna fit. you dont have any rubbin? the 315x70R17 r 34.4x12.4R17 when converted so i think with the 3" i should be just fine, hopefully

I've read on here that most people don't recommend the 3" because it changes your steering geometry too much. I run 35" with a 2 1/2" Autospring and only had a small amount of rubbing on the front bumper valance, which trimmed up nicely. The 6" would look darn good though.

A 3" is pushing it. ive had the 3" on my smokestone screw and a 2.5" on my black supercab. pics are in my albums. 75k miles on the 3" and never had an issue. 40k on my black and no issues. Your truck has rake because of the rear blocks, not engine weight. I ran 35 with a leveling kit on the black truck no rubbage you just have to get your backspacing close to stock and you should be fine. I ran a cooper stt and was good to go. The 3" is looked down upon because it puts your balljoints and cv angles in a bad angle/bind. but like i said some guys including myself do it and have had zero issues...if you do the 3" you will also need an AAL in the rear or a bigger rear block because on a 2006+ you will sag a little with that big of a leveling kit...most use a 2" on those years and you will sit level. This time my 2010 has a 6" lift.

06 with 3" level. you can see the sag this was before the AAL

It really comes down to what you want out of the truck. A leveling kit looks great is much cheaper and is easy to install but a suspension lift will obiviosly get you higher (bigger tires) and will perform better offroad (more articulation).

Here is a picture of my 06 Scab 4x4 with a 2in level and nothing in the rear. It looks level but if you throw a tap on it its actually 3/8in low in the rear because the 2in kit actual added around 2.5in in the front. I am running 275/710R18 (33in) and I feel like I do have room to spare. I agree with Big_Smokey, if you go bigger then 2in you will need blocks/AAL/air bags if you dont want to look nose high.

Regarding the 3in level problems i have no experience with it... just do a standard search for leveling kits and you will find all kinds of threads on the subject.

Ohh and regarding the tires suggestions: I am a big fan of BFG's. If you want something aggresive go with the BFG M/T's and want all around performance offroad. I run BFG A/T KO's and love them but I dont put my truck through the real deep stuff.

My friend has a tiny little set of BFG M/T's on his stock 4x4 Isuzu Trooper hunting truck at 1/2 tread and he cant get it stuck no matter what he throws at it.

If BFG's are too expensive and you still want a classic M/T I had a set of Maxxis Buck Shots (very similar to BFG M/T's) on my old 95' F150 and they were pretty good... and cheap btw
