Have to push the throttle 1/2 pedal before truck moves in 4wd

I've got an 05 4.6L STX Automatic 4x4 (with the manual stick ). When I put the truck in Four Wheel drive I have to press the throttle to 1/2 pedal before the engine picks up and the truck moves. Just wondering what the issue could be.

Also I have a good amount of lag when in Two Wheel drive.

I've had the truck since May '09 with 96k on it and now it has ~150k on the odometer. It has always done this since I've had it.

I miss throttle cables.

My FX4 is the same way. It'll be around 2000 RPMs before it wants to move itself in 4x4 when backing up. Kind of annoying.

Sounds like your brakes are hanging up... Check the e brakes

No drag, Rear brakes have been done (front brakes due now), on jack stands the wheels roll smoothly.

I'm going to replace the trans fluid/filter this weekend + plugs + oil change.

ECM has been "relearned" since this started and the throttle body has been cleaned.

Guess I should have mentioned the only time I've really used 4x4 in reverse is on a slight incline in my driveway.

its not the brakes, theres a hesitation in the e throttle thats really bad in the 4.6. Had the same setup on my 05 stx with the 4.6 and even the manual stick. And 4low was the worst. Only way i could get it better was to get a edge and play with the throttle adjustsment setting on there. forget what its called but it took away about half the hesitation.

my truck does the same thing. i have an '06 with a 5.4 and auto tranny. ive only used 4x4 twice just to use it. 4low is the worst my truck wont even move till about 2000 rpm on level ground. everythings electronic and has sensors. gotta love technology.

I'm curious as to what this turns out to be. My '06 4.6 STX w/floor shift 4x4 has never had any of the above issues in 4WD (high or low range). I frequently use both ranges travelling off road. It used to have a slight lag with the pedal/throttle but a Gryphon removed that completely.
