Long tube or short tude headers for 2005 F150?

I have a cracked passenger header on my truck, which is one of the reasons I'm getting poor gas mileage, so I'm going to replace it. After searching thru post after post, sounds like long tube headers are the only way to go for gains in HP MPG, but I can't find any SS that are ceramic coated. Best I've found are short tube ( http://www.stage3motorsports.com/pro...54-Raptor.html ). But in almost every post most says shorty's aren't worth buying due to they only get you minimal gains. So is this true? JBA website says no. Any other suggestions for long tube SS ceramic or am I just hung up on the coating, is it necessary? I only want to do this expensive repair once. Also, if it's ceramic coated, if it does eventually crack, can it be welded?

Thanks

These seem to be the headers of choice, but I don't believe they are coated. And yes, you want LT over the shorties from what actual users have said. Of course a manufacturer will say no; they are trying to sell you THEIR product.

The only advantage of shorties is their ease of installing over LT's, and performing slightly better than manifolds. LT's perform much better than shorties, but require a great deal of exhaust modifications to get them to work properly. You have to swap out the OEM cats for higher flowing cats (or none at all) because LT's love to cook off stock cats. Then you have to modify the exhaust just to connect all the pieces. The only way around this is if you buy an entire kit that includes the a new Y-pipe and all that fun stuff.

It honestly turns me off so much at all the work and extra expenses required for LT's to just leave the manifolds on or just settle for shorties even though the power gains would be disappointing at best.

I can't spend that much on those long tube headers right now. If shorty's aren't really any better than stock manifolds then I'll save some money and put the manifolds back on. Thanks for your help guys.

You can also have any header coated. I've done this a number of times. As far as welding on the ceramic coating, it will damage the finish. You'll need to have the header coated after welding.

long tube headers = horsepower

short tube headers = torque
