Train Horns

Been a while since ive posted here, been really busy with school and work. But Ive finally managed to get a set of train horns for my truck. I went with the Nathan Airchime K3's at 150psi with a 5gallon air supply. VERY LOUD. Makes me smile every time I blow them. Ran 1/2" air line for them,

Quick video until I can upload from my camera

Install Pic:

Mounted them where the spare tire should go. Air tank has a rubber mat on the top and secured to the frame with the air duct wire ties. The compressor is tucked up way above the rear differential wire tied

Would love to get a set but I would for sure be ticketed all the time for using them. I might look into a set of semi-truck air horns, at least they are legal.

Man that sounds like so much fun. I have been kicking around the idea of mounting some loud azz horns on my truck. Is the only option to fit those where the spare tire would be. I would like to keep my spare. I would also want them to tuck up under the truck so I dont have to worry about hitting them. I guess they would be too big to fit behind the front grill? Thanks for any info u can give.

Many people have mounted them behind the grill, but it obviously take some fab work and I wouldn't do a 5-trumpet set. 2 or 3 horns should be easy enough to fit and not block radiator air flow too much. Mounting the pig/compressor is usually the more difficult as they aren't as easily squeezed into tight spaces.

I would only really want a 3 horn...im not looking to go all out...just get people to move out my way and scare my friends walking in front the truck lol. Can the compressor and tank be mounted far away from the horns under the body someplace and have the horns in the front or do they need to be close? I know nothing about horn setups at the moment. Also side thought...can the same compressor/air tank be used if you have air bags on the rear to level the truck when towing?

Sure, but the longer the feed line to the horns, the more lag between hitting the horn pad and hearing the sound. It should be negligible though, since the air lines are small in diameter unless you are mounting the horns behind the grill and the tank at your back bumper, lol.

I have no idea where the tank would go...I dont think the back bumper is the only place but just somewhere tucked up under out of site. How big is a tank...what is recommended...5gal? Sorry to hijack the thread...just getting into thinking about this one day.

I would NOT trust those plastic zip ties... even if they hold tight now, the plastic will degrade rather quickly...

Go out and buy yourself a couple stainless steel pipe clamps and put them on the tank

Im trying to find some large enough to go around the air tank. Ive been everywhere local and the largest I can find is 8". Which isnt near large enough. Do you have a place in mind that would have some?

And no I dont see these K3's getting mounted behind the grill. The shocker series horns can mount their fine. But a real set of train horns (nathan k3 or k5, leslies, etc) is pretty large. Visit www.hornblasters.com or head on over to www.trainhornforums.com if you have the need to browse, lol.

If your using hose clamps just put 2 or 3 together to make one big one. I wouldn't trust plastics one either for wery long.
