I had that happen to me twice in the past, in my 2008 F150. The first time the MAFS (Mass Air Flow Sensor) was bad, the second time for some reason or another a fuse, under the passenger's side, had blown.
From my experience, I'd say, check your fuses, if all of them are good, if or when it happens again replace your MAFS.
Or, better yet, purchase yourself a code reader, once you've gain access of the engine trouble-codes, then you can first use the search feature here at F150online and only when you've exhausted yourself from using the search button without success, then you can post those codes and I'm sure there will plenty of member who will guide your in the right direction to solve the problem.

Clean the MAF sensor and throttle body. Your TPS sensor (throttle position sensor) may also need replacing. My truck used to do this every couple of months for no apparent reason.
