IWE question

I have been reading on here about the IWE issues guys are having and now I believe I am having this same issue, no not a hyperchondriac, just thought it was my cat rattling and going bad. The noise is coming from the underside of the driver side of the truck. Since I thought it was the cat, I've just been driving it. I have noticed this last week that the noise has gone away, is this a bad sign? If so how bad?

Search the IWE threads. There is plenty of info out there on how to troubleshoot this. It could be the IWE or it could be a solenoid and/or vacuum line issue. If the noise has quit my guess is most likely one has completely failed and the front axle is locked in and turning all the time instead of a partial lock and grinding.

I was in a parking garage the other day and noticed some light clicking when backing up and the wheels turned. Don't know if its my CV joints or IWE. But I did order the new improved solenoid from Tasca. For $14 and $10 shipping I said what the hell.

Remember, if the solenoid was bad and took out an IWE (or two), replacing the solenoid will not heal a wiped out IWE. On a brighter note, replacing the IWE's is actually quite easy. I'd never even touched one and it took us 45 minutes total to do both sides.

The new improved vacumn solenoid id 6L3Z-9E441-A. Got from Tasca for $14.65 + $10 for shipping, only thing different is that it has a rain hood on it.

I don't hear the clicking anymore so it may have been my brake hardware, will be checking soon. Truck goes into and out of 4WD no problem.
