Exclamation Transmission Problems

So I was driving back from town this afternoon and the truck went to shift into 3rd gear and it wasn't there. The truck would just rev up so I pulled over and started from a dead stop and it just did the same thing again. I took O/D off and the shifted into 3rd gear just fine.

After doing a little reading and searching it sounds like an O/D retainer/snap ring has possibly broken and got stuck in a valve body causing it not to shift properly in O/D; but I'm still not sure at this point.

I had no prior issue with the transmission what so ever. Thankfully it's not my DD and typically only drive it to town once a week. I'm trying to get some more opinions/suggestions on this problem before I take it to the shop. Thanks for the help!!!
