ABS light - how do you diagnose the problem?

The ABS light is on in my 05 STX 4x4. I don't believe code readers can read the ABS issues... so, how do I go about finding where my issue is? The light has been on for a couple months.

Since the light has come on I have had a brake job... all 4 rotors and pads. I also replace the front passanger side caliper, it hung up and warped one of the new rotors.

Any clues on what I can do, before I start throwing money at it, I'd much appreciate it! The brake job was needed anyways, so I did not mind that expense.

You and I are in the same boat. I have a feeling it's the ABS sensors on the front axles, but I haven't bothered investigating further. I replaced all four calipers, brakes and rotors a month ago and it didn't fix the ABS light.

Mine was the sensor on the rear 'pumpkin'. Cheap easy place to start. A lot of people have issues with this sensor.

As stated previously, check the ABS sensor wire(s) (there are actually two of them incased in the hard plastic shell) that go to the wheels/hubs. My very destructive dog decided to chew one of mine in half, triggering the ABS. I had to splice the wires back together to get the light to go off. I'll be replacing the cable soon, but it runs about $160!

How do you figure changing hardware, (rotors, calipers) will get rid of a computer-aided error.
You have to find the electrical-issue. (broken wire, bad sensor, ect)

I wasnt throwing those parts at it to fix the light... the truck needed those parts. I was just stating the fact that that they were changed, trying to help "you" help me. Just stating all the facts.

I had at least three replaced under warranty. They blamed it on the lift kit. I replaced another on my own but this time it didn't temporarily remove the light. It's not just to kill the light though as I had the brakes pulse and increase brake distance and on one slow speed no brakes at all. I purchased new front sensors but by the time I received them the light went out. I'd say it has to do with the front sensors. Not wearing out but being knocked out of alignment by debris,

I just had my ABS light come on solid as soon as I started the truck. I disconnected the sensor connector on each fender well in engine compartment. The right was 425 ohms (ok 4x4 = 300 to 500 ohms // 2 wheel dr should be 2000-4000 ohms. The left was 25 megohms "bad". Pins should be open to ground.
The rear was 1900 ohms (book says 800) I think its ok.
I made 2 adapters to insert on connector pins out of small hobby brass tubing. covered with shrink tubing and pinched together as needed.
I guess I am going to order left sensor from Rockauto for $125.
This was for 1999 F250LD 4x4 super cab..
