New tailgate is on its way.

I broke down and decided to buy a new tailgate.

The tailgate on my truck is dented badly, enough to prevent the internal components from functioning correctly.

Anyone have any experience with aftermarket, CAPA certified tailgates?

I've been working in a body shop for 5 years, and I'm familiar with after market parts, but mostly bumpers and fenders. They can be hit or miss as far as fit. I have seen holes not lined up, lines off, and general fit issues. We actually dont get as many aftermarket parts as we used to. The economy has caused the dealerships to price match aftermarket parts, so we get OEM for the cost of aftermarket.

You should be fine, I wouldnt worry about it. If its a little off, you'll be the only one to notice.

Around here, craigslist usually has tail gates listed really cheap, like 150 bucks, with all the hardware.

yeah, can't find any in the milwaukee area... if I could have gotten a NTO and had it repainted, I'd have been happy, but at least this way, I'll know its all new. CAPA is supposed to be pretty good quality, as far as I've researched, I guess I will have to report back.

Like lowblueranger said, CAPA can be hit or miss. The bad part is all that stuff comes from the Orient somewhere and even though CAPA is SUPPOSED to do the testing on all that their sticker goes on, that's rubbish because sometimes they let the manufacturer self certify. Now if that isn't the fox guarding the henhouse I don't know what is. Might be great part, might not. Time will tell. Not likely to match OEM quality though, even if it does visually.

Well, lookee what arrived today. FedEx delivers on Saturdays?

So far, everything seems to fit just fine.

I am still waiting on the new internals from Tasca before I get it painted. I want to make sure everything fits and lines up right beforehand.

Can say that the quality seems much higher than most of the el cheapo parts I have seen.

Do you work in IT, blue? I noticed the APC boxes behind the tailgate.

I work as an IT Security Engineer.
