interesting. I would get this same trans code on the same stretch of road when I was sporting a Troyer tune. Troyer told me that these trucks are REALLY finicky with the amount of fluid they have in the trans. My issue was, I was going down a hill, cold weather, and the fluid was still thick from not being heated sufficiently...bam, code.

I added some fluid, and the code never flashed again.

Interesting. The ford trans tech I spoke with said there are only like 2-3 trans codes that can be thrown, so they are terrible for troubleshooting. A complete tear down is normally required.

I asked him about the 4R70W and how many issues does he see. He said he has only done 2 in 5 years.

I am not sure if trans problems in these are really as rampant as some internet reading would lead one to believe. Add in the fact that they were cranking out like 800k per model year or something rediculous.

This is my 4th Ford vehicle and I plan to buy another next time around.

Although if this truck stays reliable I may buy and older porsche for the nice days

Ouch! I just replaced an O2 sensor for $37 (Rock Auto). Did the work myself though.

Frankly . . if I'd have had time I'd have done the O2 sensor as well. I also suspect, though I have not yet confirmed, that they replaced 1 of the 3 O2 sensors and charged me the labor for doing all 3.

But . . and again I have not confirmed this . . . the flat rate for replacing one sensor may be 3.5 hours.

I love the truck. I've bought several hundred F series Fords over the years in the construction business. In fact, we were featured once on the cover of their fleet magazine. . they thought it was interesting that our office cars (all white SHO's and 5.0 Mustangs) matched all of our Oxford white F-250SD and all our our F750 aerial bucket trucks and truck mounted cranes.

But . . when I pick the truck up on Monday . . I'm going to look into getting rid of it. In all candor, having spent nearly $7,000 . . . I'm a huge Ford truck advocate but the local dealers have proven neither competent nor honest.

I confess to being enamored with the EcoBoost. I have a friend who's firm was contracted by Ford to perform the NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) testing during the EcoBoost development. His contract prevented him from sharing the reports but he did provide the summary . . and it's nothing short of amazing.

We'll see. Ford has done some amazing things . . . but, having retired and sold my company, I really miss having a shop full of mechanics who I trust.

I agree. I think the internet tends to amplify some of these things.

The good news is that it appears someone else agrees with you and I that it's "quite abnormal" and it looks like they may pick up some or all of the tab.

Truck was picked up today and drives, once again, like a champ.

I'm hoping it's fairly obvious that $7,000, 3 sets of brakes and a transmission is not "normal" at 80,000 . .

Thanks for the info on the codes as well.

Saga continues.

Trans is working great. Holding gear, shifts good, and gas mileage improved by like 2 MPG.

But now I have a driveline clunk. Diagnosed it yesterday, looking under the truck while my wife pressed the gas and rolled forward. The whole trans is shifting back about 1/16 of an inch.

Going back into the shop tomorrow. I love my truck, but I am starting to feel abused by it. It might not make it a whole year in my stable. I hate to say it but a toyota truck may be in future if this keeps up.
