Older Style Air Horn Questions
Older Style Air Horn Questions
Hey,
First off i have an air horn that i picked up from my grandfathers pole barn. Brand new in the box and never used before he passed away. The directions say 1976 on them. The plan in my head is to have them in every truck that i own from here on out.
Okay, so now here is my problem. The tank fills through a compressor that gets spliced into the vacuum lines. What would be the best vacuum line to splice into? Or is it not a good idea to connect into the vac lines of a newer style truck? If i should not splice into the lines is there a small compressor that you guys would recommend?
Thanks,
Kevin

Is there a specific stand alone compressor that i should be looking for?
Or can you point me to the thread that will help me? I searched but did not have luck.

For basic setups, check out www.hornblasters.com. They've got compressors and whatnot, and you can figure out how they hook theirs up. Keep the horn you've got, I'm sure it's better than anything hornblasters has unless you get a Nathan Airchime.

Ok Here is what i am working with

Ok so like stated previously i am looking into getting a stand alone compressor. Now what psi compressor would you guys suggest? Are there compressors that have regulators in them? or a blow off valve? Also I have seen some people that pressure guage. Is that necessary?
Also if you guys think or see of anything else that i need please let me know.
Thanks,
Kevin

I'm sure the pressure guage is only so you know how much reserve pressure you have (how long you can blow the horn). Probably not necessary to have installed unless you really care that much. I would imagine the holding tank is the biggest concern, as it needs to be large enough to power the horn for several seconds.
Yea the tank seemed a little small to me but it is the one that came with the horns so i am assuming that it will work as intended. If not i will invest in a larger tank at a later time but the money is not there right now.
I am just concerned that the pump will continuously run. So what I am asking is:
Do the pump shut off at a certain psi? If so, which psi should i go with?
Thanks,
Kevin

Yes, depending on what type of compressor you get, it will cycle off when it reaches it's set PSI (many people look for the 125-150psi range), then it will turn back on after the pressure in the tank falls to another set point, say 50psi.

I have been looking at the Viair Compressors. I am getting confused on which one that i should choose.
Can someone please tell me which of the compressors would be best for my application.

I am not thinking that i need more than a viair 100 series pump for the size of the tank that i am working with.
But if someone could chime in and give me some advice with this that has more experience than me it would be appreciated.

I am not exactly sure of the size tank. It is the one that is in the pictures above. To be honest i am willing to bet it is only a 0.5 gallon tank. I know it is small compared to what everyone else is using but it is what I have at the moment and i am just looking for a compressor to work with what i have.
