Exclamation Truck died completely.....

So I went to TSC yesterday. On my way out of the parking lot the truck fell flat on it's face...just shut off..no sputtering or anything. I put the truck in park and tried to restart it. It would turn over but there was no sign of engine life other than that. I now had cars honking because I was blocking the road. A guy in an explorer offered to tow me out of the way. He was going to begin to pull we when I realized I couldn't take it out of park and put it in neutral. So now the truck died, won't start and won't come out of park....

A state cop happened to drive by and he blocked traffic till the wrecker came. It was put on a flatbed and brought to my house. I tried some of the things that people did when they couldn't get it out of park. Like turning the key 1 click and then trying to get it in neutral. That doesn't work in m situation. It seems like the truck is in "protect" mode...no spark...no fuel...and such. So I tried my spare key thinking it might have been the chip in my main key. That didn't work either of course.

I was hoping someone would have some more ideas for me. I used to have an account on here a few years ago but I sold my super cab FX4. I now have a 2005 Screw that I use as the family hauler so I made a new account.

Thanks guys.

The first thing I would check is the Fuel Pump Driver Module aka FPDM. It is mounted near the spare tire and there are known issues with them corroding.

Good luck getting back up and running.

check the Fuel Pump Driver Module like was stated...also check your battery to see if you have any power. Sometimes the batteries on these trucks go dead without warning and will cause the same issues.

Like everyone else says. The Fuel Pump Driver Module dies without warning and renders the truck useless.

Tow truck driver took a quick shot of either in my intake and it fired right up. He showed me the driver module and it was cracked open, 120.00 (labor and part) plus the towing bill and I was back on the road.

Extended warranty did not cover the part.

The fuel pump driver would make sense for the dying part and why it won't start, I can't smell fuel when I crank it so I am assuming it isn't getting any. Why though would I have a shifter interlock issue at the exact same time? It wouldn't come out of park when I tried to restart it after dying. I will check the pump driver tomorrow. I doubt it's the battery it cranks fine and has good voltage.

Brake lights do work that was one of the first things I checked. I am waiting for the snow to go away so I can get under the truck and check some things out. It was 80 last week and now we got more snow.
