Painting rails, cowl, flares, handles, and badges.

I plan on painting the badges satin black and since all my plastics are faded so bad i was just going to do it all at once and all the satin black. Has anyone painted their door handles with them on the truck? If not how hard is it to remove them to paint? Lastly how hard is it to remove the mirrors because mine are starting to fade as well.

For both the door handles and the mirrors, you can gain access to both by removing the door panel. Mirrors will be easy, but handles my be a pain to get to...don't remember.

The easy alternative is to get some good blue painter's masking tape and take your time to mask everything perfectly, and spray it on the truck....prep is the key either way. have fun

Well i got the rails, wiper cowl, wiper arms, badges, and rear oval done today. They look AMAZING!! Next is the door handles and mirrors.

Has anyone been successful in doing the mirrors and handles while they were still on the truck? What did you do for the key pad on the drivers door?

Did you clear coat the pieces you've painted?

If not, I'd go ahead and do that unless you want to re-paint in a year or two.

Mine before painting;

after painting;

but I only clearcoated one side to see if it would make any difference. It did.

I did clear the rails but as soon as i put the clear on it, the faded look came right back and it looked like i never painted them.

I tried to put clear on the stuff today and it made it look faded again so i said screw it. If i gotta repaint them in a year or two so be it. I put everything back on as far as the rails, cowl, and wiper arms go and painted the passenger side door handles. They turned out amazing. As long as it is nice tomorrow ill do the driver side handles tomorrow and then all that is left is the mirrors and flares. I am going to try the torch trick to freshen up the flares.

BTW, ill have pics of everything before and after once its all done.

I got everything done except the mirrors. I may leave them so i dont have to worry about removing them. Their not as bad as everything else was. I also did the torch technique for the fender flares and it worked awesome. Ill have pics up soon.

Anyone know where i can get FX4 Decals for the bed that are all black? DecalFX is currently down.
