fuel fill problem

I tried a search but did not see anything so here goes my truck is a 2006 f150 since 2006 i have filled my truck normally just like any other vehicle than today as soon as i pulled the handle the gas would start spitting out and pump would kick off. i thought it might be the anti-siphon flap but search eliminated that. the only thing different was lastnight i let it get low enough to sputter as i pulled into driveway(i know dumb move) anyway took wife escape and got 5 gals gas and put it in truck so i could make it to gas station. (sorry long winded) so any thoughts? thanks in advance for your inputs.

Maybe it was a problem with the pump
did you try a different pump?

There is a little vent tube that allows the excess air escape the tank while you fill. It could have mud or junk in it
