would you buy this truck?
would you buy this truck?
Im looking at a 2004 extended cab xlt with and edge programmer, leveled,315 bfg a/t on stock wheels, bull bar and new drive shaft, has about 125k on it the price is 9000 is it ok to buy with that many miles or is it a waste of money?
i just bought me an 04 fx4 super cab 2 weeks ago. got it with 153000 miles on it. i love it, i call it my country cadillac. it has the famous cam phaser noise but i can live with that. i only paid 7500 for it where most car lots here are asking 13000-16000 for the same truck. the way i looked at it was even if it needs a motor and/or tranny a year or so down the road i'm still a winner. 9000 doesnt sound like a bad price at all to me. the only issue with a high mileage vehicle is you dont know how well it was maintained.

I say go for a good deal on a high mileage truck.
Say you save a few grand by buying a high mileage truck and the engine does end up blowing. So you replace it, and your still in for what a low mileage truck probably would have cost you.
Now say ever thing ends up being fine. Well then you obviously just got a good deal on a truck.
If you get a new(to you) truck, and you love it, its a WIN either way.

If you really want to get into this truck and money is tight, you need to go thru this thing with a fine tooth comb, and then have someone who knows these trucks like the back of their hand look too.
IF the truck was taken care of previously, there's no reason to see why it couldn't double that mileage in the future.
X2 on the spark plugs, if you haven't looked into the problem with these, you really should do a search on the plugs to see what you're getting yourself into. They can be a nightmare to change.
i would not buy a truck with that many miles or one with a programmer already on it. who knows if the previous owner tried to mess with the settings when they didnt really know what they were doing and may have ruined something. my friend did that with his. he messed with the setting almost everyday, ruined his trans.
I wouldn't hesitate one bit.
If you go drive it. You feel that its solid. It seems that it has good power though all gears, then why wait? It even has all the extras added on to it. You won't have to do it.
What is high mileage? Some say 75k is high, others say 100 or 150k is high. My old(2001) F150 had 156k when I sold it. Ran great. Had many service records for her.
Now I know the 3v is a complete different monster than the 2v, but it is still a VERY Solid motor. Very reliable.
But it is completely your call! Does he have service records??

OP hasn't said if it has a 5.4 or not. Either way 4.6, 5.4, if the engine's been well maintained, as well as the transmission, and all PM has been done, go for it.
My 05 5.4 has over 100,000 miles on it, with 25,000 on the short block due to 07M08 warranty. Truck runs like a champ.
