Riddle me this.....

As some of you know, I put 2010 FX4 rims and tires on my '07 XLT yesterday. Thanks to the wealth of knowledge on here I was told that my new rims have the valve stem type TPMS sensor, and would definitely not work with my truck....total different frequency. I already have my old rims and tires sold, so I decided to live with the low pressure light until I got sensors and bands for my new rims. Well, I've been driving on these new rims (which turns out that the seller lied to me and they have no sensors in them at all ) for well over 50 miles now and have yet to see any warning lights....what the?

All vehicles sold in 2007 and up have tpms sensors.

I am going out on a limb to say this, so I may be 100% wrong.

And that is to say that if no signal is received does not register the light or warning. In other words until an actual sensor sends a low pressure signal you will not get a light, until then it just ignores the fact that its unable to receive anything (or should say its not aware that there are no sensor).

Another way to look at it is, its a passive listener, until it gets the signal alarm from the sensor of low pressure it does not report an issue.....hurry up and wait.

???

Sounds like a good problem to me! That light being on all the time would bug the out of me.

But I would also like a little more technical answer to how the sensor to light signal really works.
Other people have said that when they removed the sensor that the light stayed on all the time.

It's just a matter of time before the system figures out the sensors are missing. When it does, you will see the light flash for 60 seconds before going constant. This is a non-pressure related TPMS fault.

If the light comes on, PM me, I've got a spare set of sensors, cradles and clips.

Thanks, and you can be sure that I'll pm you if and when the light comes on.

i wouldnt do anything until the light turns on. i am thinking that the signal sent by the sensors is the same regardless of the sensor style. if the module wasnt recieving a valid signal, the light would be flashing indicating a fault. a free test is let the air out of one tire, drop it down to 10-15 psi and start the truck. if the light turns on, you know its working correctly. air it back up to spec and the light should go out.

tpms

I have been told that the trucks with the tpms on them from the factory cannot have the system disabled or cut off. I was wondering if this was true or if in fact there is a way to disable the tpms system with no lights on.

Just put the factory sensors back on and be done with it!! The system works well and can save you from having to change a flat tire. I have seen my low-pressure warning go off one time, and it was before I was going to start on a 100-mile trip back home doing 75-80mph. The light came on, and info center said low tire pressure, so I pulled into a wally world parking lot, saw that I'd picked up a screw in the tread, and went into wally world to buy a tire plug kit. A short drive to the local gas station and 10 minutes later I had the tire plugged and was on my way without ever having removed the tire from the truck. If I didn't have the sensor equipped, I would've been changing a flat on the side of the turnpike.

Just get the band-style sensors put on your new wheels, or buy the valve-stem type that work with the 04-08's.

My 08 Screw has the banded sensors, Can you use the valve stem ones? I heard that you couldnt bc they run on a differnt frequency.

That makes total sense to me, thanks for such a great reply. I kinda want to see how long it takes before the light actually comes on, who knows, maybe my situation will help someone else in the future. I will be buying the sensors, bands, and clips for my new rims.

I am in the same boat. When the previous owner bought tires and rims he just ditched the banded sensors completely. So, I have to hit the button every time to turn the text message off. However, the flashing yellow tire light stays on. I had a similar situation with my Mustang when I went with Shelby Razor rims. I kept breaking bands on the stock sensors on American Muscle aftermarket adjustable bands. I went with aftermarket valve style TPMS sensors on the Mustang from here: http://revolutionsupply.com/(S(1c05f...FecbQgod-U9zrg I will be either doing the same on my 07 screw or trying another brand of replacement valve style like these: http://www.ez-sensor.com/what-is-the-ez-sensor.html The OroTek sensors cost me about $35.00 a piece but it is worth it to get rid of the bands and upgrade to the newer valve style.

Well, it finally happened. After roughly 100 miles with no sensors the warning light blinked for a minute and now it's on steady. I will definitely be installing sensors on my new rims, first off for the safety issue and second to get that annoying light to go out, LOL! Thanks for all the replies
