Dipstick problem...

This sounds ridiculous, but my dipstick won't go into the dipstick tube all the way. It stops about 3/8ths of an inch from going all the way in. Of course, the oil level reads 3/8ths of an inch low on the dipstick because of this. It seems like the collar on the dip stick's yellow handle is too large in diameter to fit inside of the tube. Just put 7 fresh quarts of oil in. Truck is a 2007 FX4 with a 5.4

Anybody else have this problem? Is there a solution?

Thanks,
Hunter

Take it out. Clean the rubber o-ring seal, and put some oil on it. I bet the o-ring is swollen or just dirty.

Mine is really tight too. I just put some oil on it and push hard! If that doesn't help, you can always change that o-ring to a size smaller.

Well, I just took the o-ring off and the dipstick fits fine without it. I cleaned everything up and no dice. It must be swollen, and there is a nick in it and I am afraid it might fall down into the oil pan if I push on it too hard. I'm just going to get a new oring tomorrow.

Thanks for the help!

This exact thing happened to me a few months ago. I put a new o-ring on it, that fixed it. Now when I check the oil level I alway give it a quick wipe.
