Definition of insanity

I was told that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome was the definition of insanity. If this is true I think I must be going crazy.
History:
2007 S-Crew 5.4 4X4 with under 30,000 miles has engine light go on.
Taken to dealership and diagnosed as clogged fuel vent cannister. Dealer wanted $700 for part. Found part at mail order dealer for $250 and replaced myself. A couple days later light comes back on. Back to first dealer - they take all day to diagnose problem as wiring. No charge as their first diagnoses was wrong. 5000 miles and 8 months later light comes back on. Back to dealer - problem is solonoid attached to vent cannister. They now want $280for the part. (price dropped $420 in 8 months?)
Is this crazy or what? They tell me the canister must be plugged with dust. I live in the city and rarely drive on gravel. They also say this shouldn't happen for years not months. They'll warranty the new part for 3 months.
I have never heard of this thing going before never mind after 8 months of light duty.
Any thoughts?

I had the vent screen clog up on my 2000 Expy. I very carefully pried it open with a very fine screw driver and cleaned the vent. Over a year now and no issues.

Also my smog guy told me that there is some wierd spider that is attracted to that vent and will nest in there and clog it too. Don't know if that is b/s or not but I guess it could happen.
