You're right about the fan though, OP is going to have to swap the waterpump so the old fan assembly will screw onto it.
Thanks for posting!
I knew someone had done a swap like this before....

I have an aftermarket radiator ( I have been sellnig them forever) for the s331 so I am going to just eliminate the factory fan and go with dual electrics. I was very nervous for a while until your post JTE3097 thanks so much for the advice and hope it will work. I read that the 99 motor has better specs anyways 320 HP vs 300hp.

It'll work, I've got no doubt. That might explain why it feels so much more powerful than my last motor.

I had dual troyer e-fans on my truck for awhile too, but I took em off cause they weren't keeping up when temps were over 100 degrees here. Just keep a close eye on your temperature

Good luck man.

It's not hard, but it can be a little tedious, and there's an NVH issue as well; some people will never believe their truck is really "right" after seeing it with the body off.

If I had a 4 post lift, I'd have taken the body off right away. . . having done it with engine in truck, it would definitely save some time. You'd need a lift, and a place to leave the truck stationary.

OK well the swap went ok I guess. It was a bitch getting the motor in. Took the mechanic 4 days to do it. Of course he wants more money. The real bitch is the truck is not running right. No power and it seems to be running on 4 cylinders. They tried swapping the injectors and coil packs to no avail. They think it is the ecu. It is not throwing any codes. Any idea what to check?

Did you use your old throttle body, MAF and sensors? There's no guarantee none of these items are the same after 4 years, especially if they have different part numbers. I'd try swapping out your old electronics one at a time until you find the part that is not compatible. I would bet the intake manifold isn't compatible either, as was suggested in a previous post.

Tried both throttle bodys, injectors and coil packs. Manifold is completly different we used the old one. They have tried all of the sensors and such from what he tells me. The thing is no codes. That is what is weird.

JTE3097 when you did the swap did you use your old ECU or a 2009 ecu? We switched out most of the sensors to no avail. I am thinking of taking it to the dealer to let them figure it out.

jspec thanks for asking the question and JTE3097 thanks for posting the answer.
I am getting ready to do a swap on my 06 Scab and was not looking forward to having to lift the cab. Now I know I don't have to.

One question was there any problems with clearance withi the lift. I don't have a lift kit on my truck, but still pretty high up.

Thanks folks.

Well this is interesting. We couldn't get the truck to fire properly so I took it to the dealer who claimed no compression on one side of the motor. I then took it to the place I got the motor from who did a full compression test and found 152 across the board I believe. Whatever spec is that is what the motor was. He thinks it is a sesor or the computer? Yikes what fun!!

So another month has gone by with no solution! This really sucks. They cut off one of the cats which did nothing. Next up is crankshaft sensor swap. I am starting to think that the ECU maybe bad as I am not getting any codes except the Cat. I just want a running truck! I have about $2000 and about 100 of hours into this swap!

So I just wanted to follow up on this thread. The initial problem with the motor was compression loss on the passenger side. The dealer said the motor was bad. I took off the intake and found a C clip on the very front intake valve. I removed it and put it back together. The truck was great for about 4000 miles. No issues or anything.
About 6 months ago the engine started throwing phaser codes again. I think I got a lemon motor! Runs just fine until it get warm.

Ebayed it for around $1000. It only had 75k miles on it. I should have tried fixing it instead of going down the road I did.
