Fuel filter pressure release?

So I was going to change my fuel filter this morning...

I was going to pull the fuel pump fuse out and let the engine die so there would be no fuel pressure, but the fuse also says injectors in the manual. So, back to the drawing board.

How are you guys de-pressurizing the fuel system before changing the filter?

I usually let mine sit overnight and change it the next day. I have did this twice and no pressure release on disconnect. Only slight drip from fuel left in lines and filter.

this will not work, your tank is not pressurized. the pressure is between the pump and the injectors.

as stated, letting it sit a few hours/overnight will work

dude no need to unplug or de-pressurize anything. I just let it sit overnight and did it in the morning. You only drip like a few oz of gas. dont trip

I have never depressurized, never had more than a drip.

Be careful! I've had it spray at me before. Luckily I wear approved safety goggles when working, but it clearly sprayed all over my face.

From now on, I don't take a chance, I wrap a shop rag or paper towel and slowly release it.

Hit the Schrader valve on the fuel rail. Have a rag wrapped around it.

I'm pretty sure our body style trucks, at least mine with a 5.4, don't have the valve on the fuel rail like previous models.

Ahh... I need to replace my filter...

Not looking forward to doing that.. Pepboys wanted $85 to get it done No way!

It's a $10 part!

But looking for some info on how to release pressure too... I don't have tools or the shop where I am.. So I usually go back home and do it.. Which means I don't really have time for it to sit overnight..

Also, I have found that those metal disconnect tools are crappy to try to use. I have better luck with these:
