Just had a small question? I'm getting ready to graduate from college real soon and one of the "goals" I have for myself is a new truck. Right now I have an 03 v6 M50D SCAB that has been a real good truck to me. However, while I have been in school I have had a job that requires me to put a **** ton of miles on it. That combined with my want for a crew cab 4x4 has pointed me to this year. Now to get to my point. I keep reading about this camshaft issue that has really been causing some people alot of headaches. Is there a way to find out if the vehicle your buying has been serviced for this issue or any other info regarding it. Will it show up on a carfax or somethin? When does this problem usually occur in the life of the truck?

 

Cam phasers? Really more of an annoyance than anything. Its really up to you and what you find, but I would be looking for an 06-08. The later the year in any product design will tend to have most of the bugs worked out. Although there are many people here that have reported many trouble free miles out of their earlier models. The more service records and vehicle history you can find when shoping for the right truck, the better off you are. Carfax does show some records if I recall, but I wouldn't go off just that. ya i was gonna say i have a 04 that has just under 120k miles on it... no major issues here (knock on wood), only thing i have had to replace is the exhaust manifold and a IWE part which was like 50 for that... but besides those two it has been a awesome truck, i bought this over 3 years ago when i was just out of high school.... but if you are looking for any year between 04-08 just talk to the dealer or seller... if it is a dealer maybe you can work up a deal with the phasers just to make you happy, or something like that but either way you will love the truck... good luck

 

Depends on what you want for the motor....
Look for a 2008 if you want a 5.4L 3v
Any of the years for a 4.6L 2v.....
