My 06 XLT so far.
My 06 XLT so far.
Well, the other day I seen a fair few people hating on the 5.4L 3V and Ford trucks in general. I just want to show my thanks to this truck (even though I hate the payment some times) and give a small review of it.
Also, its REALLY slow at work, and I like to pass the time here.
Almost exactly 2 years ago (4-14-09) I first saw this truck. At the time I had a mustang V-6 pony pack (and a 3.1 Grand am before that), the poor car had been wrecked 6 times before I got it, and was totaled two of those times and fixed back. I wrecked it once (rear ended a F-150
) and totaled it once.
I was wanting a truck, and my buddy had a truck (05 XLT 4X4), the car had some problems, paint pealing on front/back bumpers, broken wiper cowl and the emblems where on the wrong way. (horse running backwards)
So, I seen this beautiful truck sitting on a used car lot.(4-13-09) I knew nothing about it, and figured I would just go look at it the next day. (4-14-09)
So, on lunch I drove my car to the lot and got out to look at this truck. Looked good, no scratches, dents or dings (well had the tailgate dings).
Guy walks out, asks me if I want to get in it, I say yes. He brings the keys back and asks if I want to drive it.
Drive it to the garage I work at, fell in love and bought it on the spot.
I got this truck pretty much blind. 2006, F-150 XLT 5.4L all stock, s-cab 6 1/2 225/70/17's
Bed liner, tow pack, LSD. 20K miles.
$14,500.
Well, I have changed the truck, done a lot of stupid things to it, but now I got it where it looks good and I am done (on the outside anyway) with it.
Sitting at 58K miles now, 38,000 miles of driving.
3 trips with 200 gallons of water.(about 2,500Lbs with the tank weight), no problem pulling it at all, had the canned tow tune going on 93Oct.
Beds full of wood/pallets and even helped move a tree that had fallen by cutting it up and moving the bits to a burn pile.
Dirt and mud, at the race track, snow and ice. Pulled and hauled lawnmowers, trailers and people.
It might just be a super cab (super crew is nice though) but it gets the job done, can fit 6 people (and I have) because I got the 40/20/40.
Loads of pipes, and construction materials, plywood and quikeret
I love the power of the 5.4, I am sure the 93 canned tune helps a lot, but running 245/70/17 its still got plenty of power.
Rides like a dream, looks great and I love my dash setup (sorry 09+ I don't care for the dash style).
I got 17.9 MPG before tire size change and tuner.
Now I get about 16-`17 if I am really careful, I think the slightly larger and heaver tires hurt it.
Here is hoping I get 100K more out of her, shes been a great truck so far. Done everything I asked and more.
No major issues, only minor things like brakes and oil changes ever 3K.
I need to change trans fluid and filter, but I haven't had the $$.
Just want to say, even though I hate the debt, the truck has preformed above and beyond anything I ever could had thought.

have the same truck except its a screw. Its been through alot and still rides and runs like new. Just oil changes one incident with the rear axle that was my fault and a seal leak in the t-case minor problem fixed under warrenty. Have about the same mileage as you and hope to get another 100k as well.
Should be a direct link to the album.
Newest to oldest pics.

Swap to E-fans.
One peice drive shaft.
265's on different rims, 18's maybe.
Gotts mod (been lazy lol)
Touch up paint outside, and few places on dash.
Some sort of in bed storage.
Train horns.
Under drive pulleys.
Finish fog light mount, its not bothering anyone, it just has a bit of bounce.
Tri fold bed cover.
True dual's.
Hoping all that nets me a few MPG and some power, if I ever get to do it.
Want to, not gonna happen. ($$$)
Whiny blower and L/T headers.
Every time Im just poking alone at 55 and I get it a bit of throttle and it jumps to about 2,500 RPM.
Dat toque man, I love it. gets up to highway speed, gets up hills with cruse and never shifts down or slows down.

I had a brand new 2010 5.4L in the shop, dark red screw, was nice but I disliked the way the dash is. engine bay was clean and to be a 4X4 with 265's it didn't sit much higher than my 4X2 with level and 245's. if I had the same tire size it would be about even. Truck looked level though, fairly sure it was not touched.
cab was monster sized compared to mine. Seats are nicer too.
I have had 0 issues my self, besides stuff that was my fault. getting stuck (spun my way out) breaking mirror off
and a battery I should have replaced but didn't till it died. Here is a list of what I did.
Chrome grille insert (gave away)
brush guard, removed for sale ($100)
Vent visors
PHP gryphon
Weather Tech mats
Black grille/tan surround.
Black headlights.
CAI (removed and sold)
2" leveling kit (daystar 100% trouble free for about 6 months now)
09 style mirrors with reflectors.
A exhaust im not happy with, sounds good but tips are not level, and should have went in front of tire not behind.
DVD player.
stock sub box, 8" kicker, 300.1 Kicker amp.
Tint front door windows to match back.
I thinks that's all.
Ive had my truck almost two years and Ive driven it 35k miles so far (now has 83k) and the only issues Ive had were a leaking rear pinion seal and the heater control panel went screwy but a $40 junkyard part fixed that.
Its been a great truck for me. Most of the time its just my ride to work and back and doesnt haul much but it can when I need it to.
Mine is an '06 Supercab 4x4 with a 5.4.
I was kinda wanting a truck but not looking too seriously when a friend called me and told me I should check out the truck his friend just got in at his used car lot. The next day I went up and took it for a ride and ended up buying it. I traded in my 32-36 mpg '05 Hyundai Elantra for my 13-16 mpg truck.
I also hate the payments but I guess theyre a necessary evil. With any luck Id like to keep this truck long after its paid off.
BTW you can get a Supercrew with a 6.5' bed.
