Because that's how Ford has speced it.

Would the friction modifier (4 oz.) volumes be the same even though the total fluid volumes are different?

because the front axle is a 8.8 and the rear is a 9.75..... meaning the rear is a bigger axle. like i said my truck has a 9.75, if yours has 8.8s front and rear then check. but its not just the size of the axle, its the side of the diff cover, and other stuff. and the fronts a reverse pinion 8.8 so its probably smaller in some areas
