Spark plug Socket help?!?!

I just started changing my plugs today my 2005 5.4 F150 has been misfiring like crazy so I figured I should finally take the plunge and give it a shot. Well I went to NAPA got the champion plugs got the 9/16 socket for my truck the NAPA dude got it for me and its the one, got my wobbles and my extensions. I get started blow all the crap off the top of my engine, vaccum around my coils, remove my coils, spray a little PB in each hole, then get to work....... Well My stinkin socket doesn't want to fit on my spark plugs what the hell? I tried a 5/8 I had in my garage and still same thing it seems like the socket is just spinning around the plug or on top of it I cant really tell which. When I get my flashlight and loo down at the plug it almost looks like there is a little washer around the topof nut part of the plug, but I might just be cold and dilusional? What I do know is I need some advice can anybody shed some light on the subject?

Thanks

I need do to My plugs too! Ive read my fair share of posts on the spark plug issues but I dont have an answer for you! I do know alot of guys will tell you only use the motorcraft plugs for varius reasons, but if you bought the Mcft plugs maybe you could compare. Im going to follow along to see the out come!
Good luck!

You need to read the TSB. It says to use carb cleaner, not PB.

My 4.6 2 valve ( I know it isn't a 5.4) had a bunch of junk in one of the wells and the socket wouldnt go all the way on. Take a long thin screw driver and scrape around the plug and blow it out.

It sounds like the same thing.

Good luck.

Ill try that today and keep yall posted, I already blew them out, they look clean as a whistle except for that circle at the top of the jam nut on the plug its clean but it looks like it impeads the socket from fitting on there....its wierd almost looks like a washer on top off it. As far as the PB instead of carb cleaner I just read a bunch of people having better success with it and not breaking any plugs with it. Oh well Ill keep yall posted after I get back out there, anymore help would be greatly apreciated.

well if you look at the cop there is no washer and talking with other mechanics there shouldnt be any metal washer on the spark plug due to the fact that its something else to conduct. I have a sick feeling that a previous time when this truck may have been in the shop some super nice guy may have put washers on all the spark plugs ya know so ya cant just get them out. The good thing about that is all the auto part stores sell magnets that are too big to fit down in there so I just broke a magnet and with the help of some old krazy glu glued it on to the end of the stick.... so now that im letting it dry good Im updating everyone. Here is the pic.

No telling I bought the truck used, I guess the owner must of pissed of the mechanic or something it was a fleet truck and it was one of the higher up corporate guys who drove it so he probably had alot of enemies. Oh well major pain in the butt.
