Do I need to Buy Brake Box?

Yes I was just wondering. Just bought a new trailer that had brakes on one axle.I found in my truck a relay and sum wires. So What I am asking/Wondering is. If these trucks have a built in Brake Box or if I i would have to buy one for my truck. If Not how would I go about hooking this one up. Alson the trailer is a 18ft dove tail wood bottom tandlem axle. Thank you.

You need a controller. I recommend the Tekonsha P3.

And you'll want the pigtail to connect the controller to the vehicle wiring harness. It will be an additional $10-15. This will plug into a connector under the dash and prevent you from having to splice wires.

I use a Tekonsha Prodigy controller and really like it.

As for if you need it, yes you do. Every state has different requirements for when trailer brakes have to be used, but from what I've found online, Tennessee requires operational trailer brakes on any trailer over 1500 lbs. I imagine your trailer alone is over 1500 lbs.

Ok as far as the pigtail goes does it have to be ford specific or does it matter?
