For my lifestyle, yes. Everything I need to keep covered fits nicely in the tool box and everything else I need to carry around can just lay in the bed. Works well for me. The biggest thing that I carried in the bed was my 4wheeler, but now it's too big and I just trailer it.

I had the same delema. I ended up going with the Truxedo Lo Pro and bought a box I got at Home Depot like the one below to throw in the back.

The Truxedo keeps the water/snow/leaves out and the bed very dry. The box is big enough to fit tools, a tow strap, jumper cables, the reciever and all kinds of other crap. The box has provision for a pad lock and for extra security I lock the box to a tie down ring in the truck bed. I've also taken the box out of the truck while camping and used it for a cooler and bench.

Best part is I leave the box at the tail gate for easy access and if I need to I can pick the box up and leave it in the garage. Box is 22x20x40.

I've got a roll up bed cover. Couldn't lose that much space in the bed by adding a tool box. And I also bought something extremely similar, if not the same thing as what GtxKen has. I have it in the bed with a strap holding it to the tie downs near the cab. So I can put it back in and remove it as I want.

I've got the undercover bed cover. It comes off in 5 mins. One person hangs on the wall when stored and can find for around 3-400 on craigslist. I have it when I need it and take it off when I need to. Water tight light weight and lockable. Also sturdy enough you can get up and walk on it while on the truck.

Fold-A-Cover G5.

I can remove it myself to get my Streetbike in, and it locks, which makes it great for trips to Costco. Its my 3rd one, in three trucks. I wouldn't do anything different

How much toolbox space do you need? If anything you can buy both. I've seen some trucks that have both a tool box and I think one had a hardtop tonneau and others with soft tops, you will just have to special order them I'm guessing.

Or if you don't need to much tool space they have boxes that can fit under your back seat...

Well if you are using it for that I would either go for a fiberglass tonneau with a lock or a toolbox with a lock. The fiberglass will cost more but you will have more space for your things.

If it were me I'd go with the Undercover then, nice and sturdy!
