Tired of dark FX4 and Lariat center console at night? I fixed that!!!

so i saw a guy do this on the internet and loved the idea so i gave it a whirl. turned out very nice imo. i added 2 led strip lights that i bought off ebay to the center console because its so dark in there at night without turning on the map light. i also installed a switch that i bought at radio shack that turns the light on when the console lid opens and obviously turns off when closed. ran 12v power from the 12v cigar lighter in the back of the console and put an in-line mini fuse in. easy as hell to wire up. total cost: less than $15 because i already had wire and connectors. here are some pictures. its much brighter at night

That mod, plus many more, are available by clicking my signature photo. Be sure to click the "mod notes" button for the step-by-step for each one.

Nice job.

Cheers!

I know those LED's do not draw much, but if it fails does it fail in the open or close position? In other words do you loose your light or your battery?

I never did find a better switch, but it hasn't failed yet. Cross your fingers.

Better switches = reed switch/magnet, or mercury switch ... in other words, the kind that are not visible and require no drilling ....
